Regulations for Submission

1. Aims and Scope

The Journal of Teaching Practice and Pedagogical Innovation (TPPI), published by National Taipei Education University, is a peer-reviewed academic journal dedicated to encouraging higher education faculty to engage in classroom teaching practice research. It serves as a platform for publishing research findings and sharing innovative teaching practices. Its primary readership includes domestic and international researchers and practitioners who focus on faculty teaching and student learning. Centered on teaching practice in higher education, the journal welcomes classroom teaching research that enhances student learning outcomes, as well as creative sharing of teaching practices.

2. Research Themes

With "teaching practice and innovation" at its core, the journal accepts research papers on teaching practice and creative teaching sharing within higher education settings. Topics may include, but are not limited to: "Innovative Curriculum Design," "Development of Teaching Materials and Media," "Teaching Strategies and Methods," "Classroom Management Strategies," "Learning Assessment Methods," or "Technology-Integrated Instruction."

3. Submission Categories and Guidelines

Submissions are categorized into three major themes. For the first two categories, manuscripts are recommended to include: Innovative Curriculum or Pedagogical Philosophy, Course Design or Teaching Strategies, Implementation Process or Teaching Cases, Student Learning Outcomes, and Pedagogical Reflection. As a general principle, Chinese manuscripts should not exceed 25,000 characters, and English manuscripts should not exceed 10,000 words.

• Promotion Research Papers based on Higher Education Faculty Teaching Practice:

  In accordance with the multi-track faculty promotion system, faculty members who have successfully achieved promotion through a "Technical Report on Teaching Practice Research" or a "Specialized Monograph on Teaching Practice Research" may adapt their research outcomes into an academic paper for submission.

• Classroom Teaching Research in Higher Education:

  Research papers focusing on innovative classroom teaching practices by instructors in higher education settings aimed at improving student learning outcomes.

•  New Knowledge in Teaching Research, Teaching Research Reviews and Commentaries, and Creative Sharing of Teaching Practice:

  Manuscripts that share emerging trends in teaching research, analyze literature in teaching research, or share creative teaching practices. Submissions in this category may incorporate photographs or diagrams for illustration.

4. Publication Frequency

The journal is a semi-annual publication, with one volume (two issues) published each year in June and December.

5. Submission and Review Timeline

Submissions are accepted year-round. Authors will receive review feedback within three months after submission.

6. Formatting Guidelines

References and in-text citations must follow the APA style. The manuscript layout and other formatting details must adhere to the journal’s template guidelines (please refer to the TPPI Manuscript Formatting Guidelines for details).

7. Funding Acknowledgement

If the submitted manuscript is the result of an unpublished research project, the source and nature of the funding or subsidies received must be indicated.

8. Submission System

The journal uses an online submission and review system. Please submit your manuscript via the online system at http://tppi.ntue.edu.tw/online. First-time users must register an account before submitting.

9. Peer Review Process

The journal adopts a double-blind peer review system. The procedure is as follows:

• Desk Review: To verify whether the submitted manuscript meets the formal requirements (including author biography, word/character count, formatting specifications, etc.).

• Pre-screening: Manuscripts that pass the desk review will undergo a pre-screening focused on the quality of the paper and its alignment with the journal’s scope.

• Initial Review: For manuscripts that pass pre-screening, the Editor-in-Chief will invite the Editorial Board to recommend two scholars/experts for initial review. Papers required to undergo revision must be revised, and the author must provide a point-by-point response to the reviewers' comments.

• Secondary Review: For papers that pass the initial review, the respective managing editors will examine all review comments, the history of revisions made by the author, the responses to reviewers, and the overall quality of the paper. The managing editors will then provide a recommendation regarding acceptance or further revision to the Editorial Board for final deliberation and decision.

  To prevent the waste of academic resources, if a manuscript is withdrawn by the author during the initial/secondary review phases or after it has been accepted, the journal will not accept any submissions from that author for a period of one year.

10. Fees and Complementary Copies

No review or publication fees are charged to the authors. Upon publication, authors will receive three complimentary copies of the journal issue in which their paper appears.

11. Authorship and Proofreading

Accepted manuscripts will be published under the author's real name (including both Chinese and English names). Authors are solely responsible for proofreading the galley proofs prior to printing. The original authors shall bear full responsibility for any errors found after publication.

12. Copyright and Open Access Authorization

Upon acceptance, the author agrees to authorize the journal to distribute the full text of the work in print, electronic (CD-ROM), or online formats. The author further authorizes the "Taiwan Periodical Literature System (National Central Library)," "Taiwan Academic Journal Open Access Platform," and other databases that have signed cooperative agreements with the journal (including Airiti Library, Lawdata, Encyclopedia of Human and Social Sciences in Taiwan, EBSCO, Ericdata, HyRead, etc.) to reproduce, provide online services, allow users to download, print, and browse, and to make minor format modifications to fit database requirements. All other copyright matters shall be handled in accordance with relevant copyright laws.

13. Implementation

These regulations are approved by the Editorial Board, ratified by the President of the University, and enacted accordingly.

 

 

Publication Ethics Statement

Journal of Teaching Practice and Pedagogical Innovation

The Journal of Teaching Practice and Pedagogical Innovation is an academic journal established to encourage faculty members in higher education to engage in scholarly inquiry into teaching practice and to disseminate the outcomes of their research and innovative pedagogical practices. All manuscripts submitted to the Journal undergo a rigorous peer-review process.

The Journal does not accept manuscripts involving any form of research misconduct, including plagiarism, duplicate submission or redundant publication, data fabrication or falsification, ghostwriting, inappropriate authorship attribution (including honorary or gift authorship), or undisclosed conflicts of interest.

The Journal adopts the principles of Publishing Ethics recommended by Elsevier B.V. and, with minor modifications, sets forth the following ethical responsibilities for authors, editors, and reviewers.

Responsibilities of Authors

Reporting Standards

Authors should present an accurate account of the work performed as well as an objective discussion of its significance. The underlying data should be represented accurately in the manuscript. A paper should contain sufficient detail and references to permit others to replicate the work. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable.

Data Access and Retention

Authors should retain the original data relating to their manuscript and be prepared to provide access to such data for editorial review where appropriate. Authors should also be prepared to make the data publicly available after publication whenever practicable.

Originality and Plagiarism

Authors should ensure that they have written entirely original works. If the work or words of others have been used, these must be appropriately cited or quoted.

Plagiarism in all its forms constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable. This includes presenting another person's ideas, conclusions, or findings as one's own, reproducing or paraphrasing substantial parts of another work without proper attribution, or misrepresenting another person's work as original.

Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication

Authors should not publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal or primary publication, nor should they submit the same manuscript simultaneously to more than one journal. Such conduct constitutes unethical publishing behavior.

In general, a manuscript that has already been published should not be submitted for publication elsewhere. Secondary publication may be acceptable under certain circumstances, provided that the authors and editors of both the primary and secondary publications agree, the secondary publication faithfully reflects the data and interpretations of the original publication, and the original publication is properly cited.

Acknowledgement of Sources

Authors should appropriately acknowledge the work of others and cite publications that have influenced the reported research.

Information obtained privately, such as through conversations, correspondence, or discussions with third parties, should not be used or reported without explicit written permission from the source. Likewise, information obtained through confidential services, such as the peer review of manuscripts or grant applications, must not be used without the express written permission of the original author.

Authorship of the Paper

Authorship should be limited to those who have made significant contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported study. All individuals who have made substantial contributions should be listed as co-authors, and all other contributors should be appropriately acknowledged.

The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all eligible co-authors are included, that no inappropriate authors are listed, and that all co-authors have reviewed, approved, and agreed to the submission of the final version of the manuscript.

Hazards and Human or Animal Subjects

If the research involves chemicals, procedures, or equipment with unusual hazards, these should be clearly identified in the manuscript.

Research involving human participants or animals must comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and institutional guidelines. Manuscripts reporting research involving human participants should include a statement confirming that informed consent was obtained and that participants' privacy and confidentiality have been adequately protected.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

Authors should disclose any financial or other substantive conflicts of interest that could be construed to influence the results or interpretation of their work. Such disclosures include, but are not limited to, research funding, grants, employment, consultancies, ownership of materials or products, honoraria, expert testimony fees, patent applications or registrations, and donations or sponsorships.

Potential conflicts of interest should be disclosed as early as possible.

Fundamental Errors in Published Works

When authors discover a significant error or inaccuracy in their published work, they have an obligation to promptly notify the Editor and cooperate in correcting or retracting the publication, as appropriate.

If the Editor learns from a third party that a published work contains a significant error, the authors are likewise obligated to cooperate in correcting or retracting the paper and to provide all necessary information.

Responsibilities of Editors

The following guidelines are based on the principles set forth in the Elsevier and COPE Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.

Publication Decisions

The Editor is responsible for deciding which submitted manuscripts should be published, based on the results of peer review and the scholarly merit, originality, and significance of the work. Editorial decisions shall be made in accordance with the journal's editorial policies and applicable legal requirements. The Editor may delegate aspects of the review process while retaining overall responsibility for publication decisions.

Fair Play

Editors shall evaluate manuscripts solely on the basis of their intellectual content without regard to the authors' race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, nationality, ethnic origin, or political philosophy.

Confidentiality

Editors and editorial staff must not disclose any information concerning a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, editorial advisers, and the publisher, as appropriate.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

1. Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used by editors in their own research without the author's explicit written consent.

2. Information and recommendations obtained through peer review must remain confidential and must not be used for personal advantage.

3. Editors should recuse themselves from handling manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest arising from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, institutions, or organizations involved.

4. Editors should require all contributors to disclose relevant competing interests. If competing interests are identified after publication, appropriate corrective measures—including publication of a correction, expression of concern, retraction, or conflict-of-interest statement—should be taken as necessary.

Sponsored Supplements and Conflicts of Interest

1. Sponsored supplements must be subject to the same rigorous peer-review process as all other submissions and must receive no preferential treatment.

2. Decisions regarding sponsored content shall be based solely on academic merit and scholarly value, independent of commercial considerations.

Involvement and Cooperation in Investigations

When ethical concerns or allegations of research misconduct arise concerning a submitted or published manuscript, the Editor and the Publisher (or the Higher Education Publishing Company) shall take appropriate action, including contacting the authors, the publisher, or relevant institutions as necessary.

If misconduct is confirmed, prompt corrective action shall be taken, including publication of a correction, clarification, retraction, or other appropriate notice. Such actions may be taken regardless of whether the article has already been published.

Responsibilities of Reviewers

Contribution to Editorial Decisions

Any invited reviewer who feels unqualified to review a manuscript or knows that a timely review cannot be completed should promptly notify the Editor and decline the review invitation.

Confidentiality

Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. They must not be shown to or discussed with anyone except as authorized by the Editor.

Standards of Objectivity

Reviews should be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Reviewers should express their views clearly, courteously, and constructively, providing supporting evidence for their comments whenever possible.

Acknowledgement of Sources

Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. Any statement that an observation, derivation, or argument has been previously reported should be accompanied by the appropriate citation.

Reviewers should also alert the Editor to any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and any other published work of which they have personal knowledge.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

Unpublished information or ideas obtained through peer review must not be used for a reviewer's personal advantage without the author's explicit written consent.

Reviewers should decline to review manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, institutions, or organizations associated with the manuscript.

Throughout the review and publication process, the Editor-in-Chief, members of the Editorial Board, and the Publisher shall adhere to the principles and guidance issued by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), including the Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors and the Code of Conduct for Journal Publishers, to ensure the integrity of the publication process and to prevent unethical publishing practices.

Regulations for the Establishment of the Editorial Board

Article 1

To encourage research in teaching practice, promote pedagogical innovation, and enhance the academic quality of the papers in the Journal of Teaching Practice and Pedagogical Innovation (hereinafter referred to as "the Journal"), National Taipei University of Education has established the "Editorial Board of the Journal of Teaching Practice and Pedagogical Innovation" (hereinafter referred to as "the Editorial Board").

Article 2

The Journal is published semi-annually, with one volume (two issues) released each year in June and December, respectively.

Article 3

The Editorial Board shall consist of 19 to 31 members. Among them, external members (from outside the University) shall constitute no less than half of the total membership. Candidates shall be recommended by the Editorial Board from among prominent domestic and international scholars who hold at least the rank of associate professor and possess outstanding academic reputations, and shall be submitted to the President of the University for appointment. The Editorial Board shall have one Editor-in-Chief, elected by and from among the members, to serve a one-year term, which is renewable upon re-election. One Associate Editor-in-Chief may be appointed, who shall be invited by the Editor-in-Chief from among the internal board members (from within the University).

Article 4

The term of office for the members of the Editorial Board shall be one year, which is renewable. The Editor-in-Chief, Associate Editor-in-Chief, and all board members serve in an unsalaried, voluntary capacity; however, external members may receive attendance fees and travel expenses for traveling from outside Taipei City and New Taipei City.

Article 5

The Editorial Board is responsible for managing the Journal's call for papers, recommending peer reviewers, reviewing manuscripts, and handling editorial matters. The division of labor shall be coordinated by the Editor-in-Chief.

Article 6

The Editorial Board shall convene at least one meeting prior to the publication of each issue of the Journal to conduct final deliberations on the papers for that issue and determine the number and order of accepted manuscripts.

Article 7

A meeting of the Editorial Board may only be convened if more than half of all board members are present.

Article 8

These regulations shall be implemented upon review and approval by the Administrative Council.
